Mexican Eco-Tours

Beach sunset in Troncones MexicoIf you enjoy travel but want to do it in a way that is ecologically responsible, eco-tours are a great vacation choice. From wildlife adventures to excursions that make contributions to local ecological societies, you can enjoy the native flora and fauna without damaging it for future generations. Here at Casa de la Sirena, we fully support eco-tourism and are proud to offer it as part of our list of services.

Most Mexico vacation villas are all about getting away and enjoying some time on the beach with a drink in hand—and there’s nothing wrong with that scenario. But if you’re looking for something a little bit beyond the traditional tropical vacation, we have the Mexico eco-tours you want.

How Eco-Tourism Helps Sustain the Environment

Eco-tourism is still a relatively new field, and the term is used to cover a variety of tourist options. For some, it means the chance to visit an ecological system without causing damage to the delicate balance that exists there. For others, it means visiting sights and towns that are integrally linked to the land. For still others, it has more to do with honoring natural resources by channeling funds into a system that seeks to preserve nature, wildlife, and the land.

Here at our Mexican beach villas, we offer opportunities to do all three of these.

  • The ecological systems in and around Troncones are some of the most beautiful you’ll find in this part of Mexico. Because this area is still largely untouched by development, our visitors often come for the chance to bird watch and whale watch, see the hatching of the sea turtles, and take walking and biking tours of the natural landscape. Kayak tours and cave explorations are also some favorite eco-tour options here.
  • The town of Troncones is one that has a long history of fishing and local produce production. A small, sleepy village that has always been tied to the land, Troncones has resisted efforts to build by putting the focus right where it belongs: on the ocean and the mountains. Although participating in fishing activities isn’t for everyone, it honors a long tradition of life here in Troncones, and you can even fry up your catch to remain tied to the land.
  • You’ll also find plenty of opportunities to contribute to the local ecological systems through regular activities like hiking, biking, horseback riding, surfing, and even spending all your time on the beach. Conservation efforts and the tourist trade here are very much tied up together, and we all work together to ensure that our land remains free and pure for those who want to visit ten, twenty, or even fifty years from now.

Here at Casa de la Sirena, we welcome all types of vacationers and travelers. It doesn’t matter whether you want a chance to relax on the beach and watch the sunset every night, or if you plan on exploring the area on foot to get a good look at all the natural scenery. Our wide range of activities and amenities mean that you set the pace for your Mexican beach vacation getaway!

Zihuatanejo Resorts: Safe and Fun for the Whole Family

Horseback riding near Zihuatanejo MexicoThese days, Mexico vacation rentals are a source of debate when it comes to safety and travel. Media and government reports tend to put the focus on the worst parts of Mexico’s troubles.

However, as many residents, expats, and regular visitors will tell you, a vacation to Mexico is rarely dangerous. By avoiding high-conflict inner cities and enjoying a beachfront villa like those you’ll find in Troncones, you’ll find no more danger than what you would expect on a trip to any overseas location.

Why Troncones is a Good Fit for the Whole Family

The town of Troncones is a small, undeveloped beach community located 20 miles north of the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo region. Home to a population of less than 1,000 (many of whom are resort and Mexico villa rental owners), this is the kind of place where you’ll find free-roaming chickens, community events, and a hammock in almost every single yard. A fishing town for centuries, you’ll feel like you stepped back in time—to an era when family and friends worked hard to build a true community lifestyle.

The cities of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo, by contrast, boast a population just over 100,000. And even with the larger number of residents, these towns are fairly small by Mexican standards. Most of the high-rise hotels and beachfront resorts are built in areas of affluence, where natural beauty and city amenities co-exist. And because regular bus and taxi service between the larger cities and Troncones are always running, it’s easy to stay connected.

This is why we established our Mexico vacation villas in Troncones. You can bring the whole family to enjoy a low-key vacation that still offers plenty of activities, from surfing and horseback riding to birdwatching and playing on the beach. Children of all ages are welcome here, and many kids find that watching sea turtles hatch and make their way to the ocean is even better than a visit to a traditional theme park!

Safety in Coastal Mexico

This part of Mexico is one of the safest areas you can travel in the entire country. Known as an ideal tropical destination for vacationers from all over the world, the towns rely heavily on the tourist trade. Because of this, city developers and leaders have always put a focus on traveler safety. You’ll find that the infrastructure is well-suited for the modern traveler, with everything from Internet connections in your private villa to updated hospital facilities in Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo that are able to accommodate almost every type of medical emergency.

As is the case with any travel to Mexico, however, precautions should always be taken. Don’t drink the water out of the tap, be sure and wash all your produce with bottled water before you eat it, avoid traveling after dark, and stay close to the tourist centers. For more information on travel safety, visit the U.S. Department of State website on travel to Mexico.

If you have any questions or concerns about traveling to your Mexico vacation villa, we encourage you to contact us directly. We know that travel safety is an important factor in your decision to come here, and we will do our best to put you in touch with the right resources to make your trip as perfect and safe as you want it to be!

Holidays in the Tropics – The Best It Can Get!

This year, imagine Thanksgiving or Christmas vacation in an oceanfront Mexican beach villa! Whether you are escaping to the joyous culmination of all those plans for the perfect tropical holiday family reunion, or have made a last minute decision to take some “couples” quality time, getting away for the holidays is so much more than a chance to give yourself an incredible gift — in a place like Mexico, where sun, sand, and surf await every month out of the year, it’s also a way to recharge your life and to experience another culture’s holiday traditions.

Although the Thanksgiving holiday is only observed in the United States, you’ll find that the Christmas holiday gears up early in Mexico bringing with it a joyous thanksgiving for life. And you can enjoy a seasonal retreat that’s as festive as it is relaxing. Smiling faces, village fiestas, friendly people and the culture steeped in tradition, Christmas in Mexico is simply enchanting.

The Christmas season is a festive time of the year for Mexicans. Parties are common, and food and drink flow in abundance. Many local festivals take place, and you can participate as much or as little as you want. In most locations, you can expect the festivities to really start gearing up in mid-December and continue all the way into January.

The scenery around the holidays is also an enjoyable sight. Although you won’t find the traditional evergreens favored in the United States, there are plenty of lights, explosions of color, and decorations to keep your holiday spirit firmly intact. Most Mexican residents are Catholic, so many of the more somber traditions are present, too, including Mass and religious festivals that put a heavy focus on the true meaning of Christmas.

Winter Weather at Your Mexico Beach Villa

One of the best reasons to spend your holiday in Mexico is the weather. A far cry from snow and freezing temperatures, Troncones and the surrounding areas of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo enjoy an average temperature between 70 and 88 degrees in the months of November and December, with warm, balmy breezes to take all your cares away. By this time, the rainy season has already passed, so you’ll get to enjoy sun and sand almost every day out of the week. By late November, most of the hurricane worries have passed, as well, so you get to take advantage of Mexican weather at its best.

What to Expect During Your Stay

If you plan on remaining here through the Christmas holiday, expect the shopping and tourist districts to pick up at a frantic pace! Liked everywhere, people are rushed to buy gifts for friends and loved ones. Many government facilities close to allow the workers to enjoy time with their families. It’s a great time for “people watching.”

Give the Gift of Travel

One of the best things about spending Christmas in Mexico is that you can bring your whole family along with you! Troncones vacation villas make it easy to invite dozens of guests, and you can all stay in the same luxury accommodations and enjoy the holiday as a group. There is perhaps no holiday gift quite as great as opportunities to surf, sunbathe, and explore Mexico together. The Casa de la Sirena beachfront compound in the beautiful village of Troncones offers the opportunity for you to rent your own private Mexican villa even if there are only two of you (or 20!).

Of course, if you’re using holiday travel to get away from the family, we can help with that, too. Private villas make it easy to enjoy your time away with all the rest and relaxation you need to start the new year afresh!

Mexico Vacation Rentals: The Graduation Gift of a Lifetime

Travel package gifts are a common theme for high school and college graduates. There is something so liberating about finally getting that diploma and walking across the stage — it is a rite of passage, a shift from one chapter in life to the next, and the chance to celebrate years of hard work.

Mexico beachfront rentals are a great way to offer the new graduate in your life a chance to relax and prepare for the adventures that await them. And when you add group packages and great on-site features like those you’ll find at Casa de la Sirena, the result is a safe, fun-filled getaway that your graduate will never forget.

Why Give a Graduation Trip?

Traditionally, those few months after graduation are the only ones in which young adults have the ultimate freedom. Without a job, graduate school, mortgages, bills, or a family of their own demanding their time, new graduates are free to explore the world and their place in it.

Mexico makes a great graduation destination because of its variety of features and its accessibility from the United States. In addition to beaches, surfing, and a young and vibrant nightlife, you’ll find a wealth of educational opportunities, as well. From local arts and culture to unique ecological and archaeological sites, your graduate can choose between a relaxing getaway with friends or the chance to learn more about this unique part of the world.

Why Choose Troncones Vacation Rentals?

Troncones is a beach community located about half an hour north of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo on the west coast of Mexico. Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo are known as hotspots for graduates and young vacationers, since so much of the area is dedicated to shopping, fine dining, an active nightlife and outdoor activities. And while a mini-bus trip down to Zihuatanejo is always great for an evening or two, the relative quiet and slow pace of Troncones makes for an ideal destination for those who want safety and entertainment all wrapped in one neat, sun-soaked package.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that this Troncones beach resort is slow. In fact, there is more than enough here to keep your graduate and his or her friends entertained for weeks. In addition to world-class surfing and pristine stretches of beach, you’ll find opportunities to snorkel, kayak, mountain bike, go horseback riding, and even enjoy whale watching. And that’s just outside! In a resort setting like Casa de la Sirena, there are also numerous chances to enjoy yoga, sunset meals, and daily massages.

And because Troncones isn’t yet considered a hotspot for tourists, everything here remains low-key. The people are friendly, the restaurants cater to both locals and tourists, and the focus is on enjoying a true beach community.

Mexican Beach Rentals: Safety and Accessibility

One of the best reasons to choose Troncones as the Mexico beach resort for your new graduate is the safe atmosphere and accessibility. Regular taxi and mini-bus service makes getting to and from the nearby Ixtapa region easy, and most of the resorts here offer Internet service and modern telephone services to always stay connected. Medical facilities in nearby Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo are also some of the best you’ll find in the country.

Of course, there’s also the peace of mind that comes from group travel, which is why a Mexico vacation villa, accommodating up to 20 guests, is perfect for a graduation gift. Encourage your new graduate to travel with family members or friends, knowing that everyone will go to sleep in their shared private retreat each night.

Look beyond gift cards, electronics, and money when you’re giving graduation gifts this year. Encourage the new graduate in your life to spread some wings and explore a new culture and the fresh scent of independence. Mexico beach vacation rentals are unique and unforgettable!

BECKY'S MERMAID
BECKY’S MERMAID

This photo, “Becky’s Mermaid” is so special to me.  Doug and Becky Stow stayed with us last year.  Doug has been a fabulous painter for lots of years and this was Becky’s FIRST PAINTING!!!

And, she gave it to me!!!  She has inspired me and I am hoping to return to my painting lessons when we get back to the beach.
We  have been busily preparing for high season.  We are doing allot of upgrades, painting, re-upholstering and generally just making the private villa and 2 story bungalows “new” again.     It is beautiful now and will be even more so by the 1st of November when it is complete.
GARDEN TIME!  Yes, we are hoping for a great garden this year to accompany our chives, basil, chilis, mangoes, papayas and limons.   We have planted tomatos, squash, warm weather spinach, rosemary and red bell peppers hoping that our love of gardening and attention to the plants surpasses the challenge of the salt air that comes with being right on the ocean.  If anyone has any tips, we would love it if you would share!
We are grateful that the hurricane by passed us and Jessica and Jarrod’s sunset beachfront wedding and celebration was perfect!   Destination weddings in Mexico need not be expensive or difficult.  Just let us help!
Our “cast of regular” Mexican surfer dudes were back for their annual trip (actually, back twice) and made a great Mexico Troncones surfing video available for view on our website.  Thank you to Mike and the guys at Swellmagnet.com.
We still  have a cancellation for the private villa  over Thanksgiving week.  Make us an offer!  If you have never visited us before, this is a perfect opportunity for a romantic get-a-way or a last minute family escape.  We’ll leave the lights on!
