The Ideal Group Size for Your Private Mexican Yoga Retreat

If you’re part of a yoga class or group considering a private yoga retreat to Mexico, you’ll have quite a bit of work to do planning for your tropical getaway. In addition to the regular things like airline tickets, passports, and packing to take care of, you have to make sure the group dynamic is just right. That’s because a yoga retreat is more than just a vacation…it’s a chance to bond with others who feel the same way you do about yoga and its benefits to overall health and wellness. In fact, having the right group alongside you for the journey is almost as important as where you
go.

Why Go Group Yoga?

Many people participate in group yoga classes with the same people, day after day. This creates a tight-knit community of like-minded individuals, people who share your passions and beliefs and work together to create a safe and comfortable atmosphere. Most of the group yoga retreats we book here at Casa de la Sirena are with groups just like this, whether they’ve been together for years or are forging new bonds.

This kind of trip also has the advantage of offering price discounts. When you travel as a group and book a facility that caters to yoga classes, you can enjoy a luxury tropical setting with all the perks—and at a fraction of the cost of a more traditional vacation.

How Many is Too Many?

Of course, one of the reasons Mexican yoga retreats are so popular is because there is no better way to enjoy privacy and serenity than in a small, select facility designed with you in mind. In order to keep things small and select, however, it’s usually best to find a group that won’t get out
of hand and get in the way of your real goals.

The ideal yoga group is between 14 and 16 people, including your instructor. While you can certainly go above or below that number, this is the best way to enjoy the facilities at Casa de la Sirena while also keeping prices low. With 6 king suites, 3 queen suites, and a yoga platform on the beach designed with this many people in mind, you can enjoy privacy and the company of your class without sacrificing comfort.

You’ll also want to keep in mind that the cook available to prepare meals for the group functions best when catering to parties of this size, and that activities in the area are also best enjoyed in smaller groups like this.

Fun and Relaxation No Matter What

If you aren’t part of a yoga group planning a retreat to Mexico, you can still enjoy a trip to Troncones to take in the sun, sand, and surf in the way that suits you best. While the yoga platform is reserved for those who purchase the yoga package, there are plenty of spaces (including our private villas) where you can unroll your yoga mat and enjoy a slice of serenity here in paradise.

Troncones, an Ecological Paradise on the Mexican Coast

Troncones is a small fishing village located in the Mexican state of Guerrero. A popular spot for Mexican beach vacation getaways, Troncones offers an incredible look at the natural ecosystem of tropical Mexico. Nowhere else will you find that perfect balance of luxury accommodations, small-town comforts, and the virtually untouched animal and plant life that exist here in abundance.

Wildlife in Guerrero, Mexico

Guerrero is known around the world as an ecological wonder. Within this small state, you’ll find everything from ocean and beachfront wildlife to the mountainous forests of the interior. Unlike many other tourist destinations in Mexico, this one remains an environmental haven thanks to a strong focus by the Mexican Government on sustainability and eco-tourism.

In fact, this small fishing village has one of the largest collections of sea turtle hatcheries, alternative waste management systems, and solar-run businesses in all of Mexico. Sanctuary lagoons are open to the public, and birdwatching is a popular pastime both on the coast and further in the interior. You’ll even find nature outposts designed to help facilitate your exploration into the wildlife.

Whether you prefer to enjoy nature by exploring the waterfalls and federally-protected forests by foot, or if you want an insider’s look at how the scientific community here has embraced species preservation, you’ll find it all within an easy distance of your Mexican beach villa at Casa de la Sirena.

When to Visit Mexico?

Your eco-experience in the tropical Troncones region will depend primarily on when you make your visit. Although our location means that you’ll find warm weather and sun throughout the year, there are still marked seasons that have an impact on local wildlife.

  • Dry Season: The drier season lasts from November through May, and you’ll enjoy sun almost every day—a big change from the colder winters up north.

  • Rainy Season: From June through October, the rainy season comes into play. This doesn’t mean you’ll be forced to stay inside—it just means you can expect higher rates of humidity, more rain in the early morning, and some major waves out on the ocean. This is the best time for eco-tourists, since this is when the flowers come into bloom and the native animals begin their reproductive season.

Your Mexican Beach Getaway

One of the best things about a place like Troncones is that there is no one-size-fits-all Mexican beach vacation package. You can easily immerse yourself in the ecology here, spending all of your time in the wildlife sanctuaries and taking tours of the federal forest lands. You can just as easily visit the eco-friendly sites as a daytrip or on a day when the weather prevents you from sunbathing or surfing. Even though the town of Troncones is fairly small, the area is huge in terms of possibilities.

Of course, having a comfortable place to come home to after your day’s adventures are through is also important. Casa de la Sirena offers the perfect touch of luxury to put a finish to each day—and because we subscribe to the same eco-conscious outlook that’s prevalent everywhere here, you can rest assured that we are doing our part to ensure that Troncones remains a Mexican vacation destination that will be sustained for decades to come.

How to Organize a Yoga Retreat in Paradise

One of the benefits of booking a Mexican vacation villa like Casa de la Sirena is that you have the opportunity to enjoy a quiet tropical background that’s ideal for rest and relaxation. In fact, that’s why we built our outdoor yoga compound, a beachfront complex of serenity rooms that offer the perfect setting for private yoga groups and bridal events.

Because we don’t have an on-staff yoga instructor, groups that plan on renting the space for their retreat will need to do a little advance planning. Here are a few tips for making the most out of your group yoga retreat in Mexico:

  • Compile a Group: The yoga facilities at Casa de la Sirena can hold up to 18 guests (9 separate beachfront rooms). In most cases, larger groups work best, since you’ll be able to take advantage of greater savings that way. We recommend groups of friends or work colleagues—travel with people you don’t know is a possibility, but it’s always more fun with those you know!
  • Hire a Yoga Instructor: If you want to have a professionally-led yoga retreat, you’ll need to bring your own yoga instructor with you. We have found that this approach works better than having a yoga teacher on staff, since so many people have personal relationships with their yoga groups. Having an instructor you know and are comfortable working with will greatly enhance your retreat experience.
  • Coordinate Meals and Rooms in Advance: To avoid last-minute scrambles, include a meal and room plan in your yoga retreat. You can bring a cook with you to handle all the food (our on-site cooking facilities are designed to be used by guests), or you can check out the local restaurants or facilities to learn what’s available. Our villas are also flexible and accommodating, with the option of housing several people in the same facility to lower costs without sacrificing privacy.
  • Travel Together: Traveling as a group is a great way to save money and time. In addition to possible discounts from your airline, you can rent a van to take you from the airport to Troncones as a group. Although this part of Mexico is noted for its accessibility to tourists, there is also an element of safety that comes from group travel.
  • Don’t Run it As a For-Profit Option: Legally, you cannot book individuals for a travel excursion without a proper license. While it is perfectly acceptable for you to organize the trip and pool money to cover expenses, you cannot organize the trip with an intent to make money unless you have the right authorization.

Of course, the most important thing you can do to organize a Mexican yoga retreat is to prepare for fun. Although your focus will be on rest and relaxation, be sure to bring cameras, dancing shoes, and swim gear. Casa de la Sirena is a great place to enjoy your own private yoga getaway…but it is also so much more!

Weddings in Paradise: The Food and Wedding Cake

Most people choose to have a Mexican beach wedding for the romance, the exotic setting, and the chance to step away from tradition to create truly unique memories. After all, there are few things more moving than a couple in love looking out over the ocean, the gentle breeze and setting sun all the decoration needed to set the right tone.

At Casa de la Sirena, we have worked hard to instill all of these things in our venue and in into our list of wedding services. Some couples opt for a low-key beachfront ceremony with a handful of guests, while others look for something a little bit grander and more traditional. Regardless of what you have in mind, we’re prepared to help you realize your dream—and to get the right food to make your day perfect.

Traditional Wedding Cuisine

Wedding cuisine has long been a concern of brides-to-be. Should they provide a full-service dinner or buffet? Is it okay to simply serve hors d’oeuvres or nothing more than a wedding cake and punch? How much money should be allotted for the wedding dinner, and how is that going to fit into the entire budget?

When you add a Mexican wedding venue into the mix, the decisions get even more complicated. How do you find a caterer from thousands of miles away? What type of cuisine is in season when your wedding is scheduled? Is it even possible to get a wedding cake in Troncones?

The good news is that Casa de la Sirena is here to help. Because we specialize in Mexico destination weddings, we have the connections in place to help you plan and execute your wedding no matter how far away you live—and we can do it all on the budget you have in mind. Thanks to fresh, local produce and some incredible cooks right here in Troncones, we have a solution for every wedding plan.

Here are a few of the options you have when booking your wedding through us:

  • Traditional Mexican fare prepared by our local cook
  • Seafood buffets that make the most out of the fishing lifestyle here
  • Catered formal dinner
  • Low-key barbeque
  • Wedding dinner at a nearby restaurant
  • Open bar
  • Seasonal produce vendors
  • Professional wedding cake

All of our recommendations and food services are designed to make your day special and safe, so we only rely on local caterers and cooks who hold the utmost standards in food preparation and safety. We can also work with a cook or chef you bring with you to get your wedding food just right.

There is no reason why distance or the international location should make your dream wedding anything other than perfect. Whatever you have in mind for your wedding dinner can be accomplished—and in a way that leaves you free to kick back, relax, and enjoy what a Mexican beach wedding is really all about.

Mexico Vacation Villas: Luxury Accommodations in a Small Village

One of the biggest concerns visitors have when choosing the right Mexico beach vacation package is finding that perfect balance of luxury and privacy. In most cases, what you get when you book a trip to Mexico is a five-star hotel in the heart of a bustling city center, or a less-than-luxury bed and breakfast in a small town. Here at Casa de la Sirena, we believe that the two can co-exist. We combine the best of both worlds to offer you luxury accommodations and a small-town backdrop that keeps people coming back year after year.

Luxury in Mexico

How you define luxury is entirely up to you. For some people, a luxury Mexican vacation means upscale dining options and a setting that’s designed around comfort. For others, it’s less about the atmosphere and more about in-room amenities. And for some people, it has little to do with tangible effects and more to do with knowing that your every need will be taken care of.

Our goal at Casa de la Sirena is to offer all this—and at a price point that works well with almost every budget.

  • The Small-Town Setting: Troncones is a fishing village and a small town, which might not seem synonymous with luxury at first. After all, you’ll find other guests walking into the small city center, taking time to chat with the locals, and enjoying private boat tours and other low-key tourist activities. We define this as the luxury of time. There is no rush here, no need to wait in lines or make reservations. All the shops and activities you want from your Mexican beach vacation are here, and with a personalized touch that can only come from a small, quiet town.
  • Atmosphere and Amenities: We also provide a touch of luxury every time you return to your room. From private villas to bungalows, there are a variety of accommodation types here at Casa de la Sirena. You’ll enjoy private beachfronts, private pools, full kitchens, air conditioning inside your rooms, WiFi options, daily maid service, and traditional Mexican elegance adorning the walls and suites. All this is offered alongside sweeping views of the ocean, where you can take in the vibrant sunset or even watch as the whales make their annual migration.
  • Luxury Service: Perhaps the best thing we have to offer our guests is personalized service that helps turn your getaway into a dream vacation. Because we are a fairly small facility, we make sure that each guest has everything he or she needs to enjoy a stay with us. From the private yoga studio on the beach to wedding and party services that transform a vacation into a once-in-a-lifetime event, we’re here to create the perfect getaway for you and those you love.

There are few places in the world quite like Troncones. If you want to enjoy a Mexican beach villa in a setting that is unique and private—but still in keeping with the quality you expect from a high-end vacation—Casa de la Sirena has it all. And with a small town just a stone’s throw away, you can also enjoy an immersion-style trip that puts you in touch with history and culture at every turn.

Find a 5-Star Zihuatanejo Resort at 3-Star Prices

Let’s face it — when anyone plans a trip to a Mexican vacation villa, the ultimate goal is luxury. No matter how much fun it might be to plan activities like surfing, parasailing, or nature tours, just about everyone wants to do them in a setting that is extravagant and comfortable. The best memories of time spent in Mexico almost always include white stretches of sandy beach, great food, and even better service.

For some people, the only way to get this kind of experience is to pay for it. Five-star Zihuatanejo resorts cater to a clientele used to getting what they want and enjoying every minute of it. From guest features like room service, on-site spas, and a swimming pool to beachfront views and increased privacy, the amenities in a five-star resort are always top-notch. And because you’re right in the heart of the Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa region, you have quick and easy access to all the tourist destinations in this incredible Mexican vacation destination.

Unfortunately, with high prices that are simply unreachable for many families, the five-star dream doesn’t always seem like a possibility. Before you settle for less, however, we encourage you to consider a great alternative to pricey Zihuatanejo accommodations.

How to Book Luxury Mexico Travel on a Budget

Here at Casa de la Sirena, we’re happy to tell you that there is a way to enjoy all the upscale features of a five-star Zihuatanejo resort at about half the price.

We are situated in the town of Troncones, which is located about 40 minutes (by car, taxi, or bus) from Zihuatanejo. Close enough so that you can enjoy all the metropolitan center has to offer, but with a quiet and serene beachfront setting, Troncones is a local secret that is quickly catching on.

In a true Mexican beach resort tradition, we also boast all of those luxury features that come with a large price tag in Zihuatanejo. Private villas with their own pools, kitchen areas, and swim-up bars are just part of what we offer. Most of the resort rooms and private villas also come with multiple bedrooms, wi-fi options, and private beach access. All the traditional amenities are part of this package, too, from daily maid services to the help of our knowledgeable and friendly staff. We also boast on-site spa services as well as a yoga complex on the beach — both of which are favorites among bridal parties and corporate incentive packages.

The best part about all this is that it comes at a fraction of the cost of what you’ll find just 40 minutes away in Zihuatanejo. And while you won’t find the vibrant city life in the background, you will find pristine stretches of beach and plenty of local activities like birdwatching, whale watching, fishing, and water sports.

Not everyone can afford a five-star Mexico vacation, and that’s okay with us. We’ll provide everything you’re looking for in a luxury vacation, and we’ll do it for less. And, if you’re like most of our guests, you’ll come back year after year, enjoying all that the Troncones-Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa region has to offer.

Enjoy Ultimate Privacy by Booking the Entire Beachfront Resort in Troncones

Casa de la Sirena is one of the most unique Mexico vacation resorts you’ll find along the western coast of the country. Because of our size and location, we are able to offer more privacy than you’ll find in many other resort settings. At the same time, we still provide the right touch of luxury so that your vacation never feels like anything other than complete and utter tropical bliss. Our relatively small size also means that you can enjoy the ultimate getaway for 5, 50, or even 75 guests — and all without having to share the resort with anyone.

Mexico Beach Vacation: Size Matters

Many Mexican beach resorts are large, elaborate hotels with enough accommodations to house hundreds of guests. Others are small and select, more like traditional bed & breakfast locations than a resort in the true sense of the word. Both of these types of destinations have their uses. After all, if you want a more active nightlife, it’s good to be near people and the clubs and restaurants that almost always accompany a larger resort setting. And if you want some quiet time for two, a quaint B&B is a great way to enjoy some private time on your own terms.

Casa de la Sirena is a combination of both a larger resort and a more intimate inn. We work hard to build a very inviting and private setting. And because of our low prices, you can actually book the whole resort for a smaller party — and do it without breaking the bank.

The Ultimate Mexican Resort Setting: Location, Location, Location

When compared to the setting in Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo, the Troncones backdrop is low-key and has a much stronger focus on the beach, nature, and the local fishing village. Casa de la Sirena has the added advantage of being set a little way off the beaten track, which means our private beach becomes yours the moment you book your Mexico vacation getaway.

An ideal venue for Mexico beach weddings, wedding vow renewals, honeymoons, family reunions, and corporate retreats, we make it easy for you to enjoy as much or as little of the beach as you want. You can reserve a private villa, our beachfront yoga complex, or you can even reserve the entire Mexico beachfront resort for your next function.

And even if you don’t want to reserve the whole resort, you can still rest assured that you’ll have the privacy you need for your vacation getaway. Many of our villas come with their own little patch of beachfront real estate, and the private pools, gardens, and roof patios make it easy to enjoy being with those you love in one of the most vibrant and exotic locations in the world.

Planning Ahead: The Best Time of Year to Book Your Mexican Christmas Vacation

When it comes to planning international travel, it’s always best to do it a little in advance. Between making sure you have your passport and converting your money to reserving a spot at your favorite location, there’s quite a bit of work to do.

This is especially true when you plan a seasonal getaway (travel during Thanksgiving, Christmas, or other winter holidays). Because these are the most popular times to travel, it’s always better to ensure that you have your place reserved, paid for, and ready to go.

When Should I Book My Vacation?

Here at Casa de la Sirena, we always suggest booking a Christmas beach vacation about eight months to a full year in advance. These are our busiest times, and we see quite a bit of repeat visitors who come back year after year to spend their holidays with us. While we do have plenty of space for new visitors, it’s better to book early. That way, you can reserve the perfect vacation accommodations for your group — and spend the rest of the time planning all the great activities you can do together!

Large parties (especially weddings, family reunions, and corporate retreats) should also plan on booking in advance, regardless of the time of year. Even a trip during the slower summer months is best reserved ahead of time, since we do have limited facilities for large parties.

Planning Your Trip

Once the reservations are in place, you can use your time to prepare for your trip and ensure that there are no last-minute rushes to get everything done. When traveling to Mexico, here are a few key tips:

  • Get a passport. You will need a passport to travel to and from Mexico and the United States. These take several months to process, so don’t put this off until the last minute. Additional considerations, like tourist cards and/or visas, may apply for your unique situation and should be looked in to ahead of time.
  • Exchange your currency. Although big expenditures (like your accommodations and big tourist expeditions) can be purchased on a credit or debit card, you’ll want cash for the smaller things. It’s usually easier to get this done at home, rather than waiting until you arrive.
  • Consider travel insurance. It’s not for everyone, but some people choose to travel as safely as possible. This might mean carrying special travel insurance for health, evacuation, or even potential cancellation issues.
  • Get immunized and follow health procedures. International travel precautions should always be taken. Get any immunizations recommended by the U.S. travel authorities, and be sure to study up on practical food safety practices, like not drinking the water or eating unwashed produce.
  • Learn a little Spanish. Here in Troncones, you’ll find that we are able to accommodate English speakers very well. However, we firmly believe you can enhance your international experience by learning a little of the language and preparing to engage the locals in conversation.
  • Set up an itinerary. Some travelers like to make plans as they go; others prefer to have their entire schedule planned out and ready to go. Either way, it’s a good idea to get your hands on a guidebook and read up on the area. You might find a few places you can’t miss while you’re here.
  • Book flights and other transportation methods. Like resort rates, you can often find the best prices for airline travel when you book in advance. Purchase your airline tickets and figure out how you intend to get around in Zihuatanejo and Troncones ahead of time, and you can save yourself a lot of money and effort.

The time is right to book your Mexican Christmas vacation — for this year or next year. We provide reservations well in advance, so its never too early to start planning your dream vacation and getting everything in order to enjoy Mexico the way it was meant to be enjoyed: stress-free!

Culture and Tourism in and Around Zihuatanejo

If you’re thinking about traveling to the Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa region, you may want to take a few days to explore the rich culture in Zihuatanejo. Although this is a largely tourist area, with plenty of shops and beaches to fill your days, there is also a varied and complex past to the region. The city takes care to preserve and exhibit many parts of this past for those interested in the local history, and you can visit everything from museums to archaeological sites.

The History of Zihuatanejo

According to local legend, Zihuatanejo has been a resort town since the 1400s, having been first established as a royal bathing resort for the local king and his many wives. The area was inhabited before that, of course, and evidence of these early civilizations can be found in various dig sites and architecture. Various invasions by the Aztecs and the Spanish followed throughout the years, which is why the atmosphere here retains a unique and interesting mixture of all these different cultures.

Places to Visit in Zihuatanejo

Many of the ancient ruins are not open to visitors at this time, since preservation and discovery efforts are still going strong. If you do want to take a journey through historic Zihuatanejo, here are a few options to consider:

  • Museo de Arqueologia de la Costa Grande, a local museum that contains exhibits of ancient pottery and art from the area.
  • La Soledad De Maciel, located in the town of La Chole, is an archaeological site about 25 minutes from the center of Zihuatanejo. The site was originally uncovered in 1930, but it wasn’t until very recently that the government began excavations in earnest. The artifacts include those from the Tarascan, Aztec, Toltec, and Olmec civilizations.
  • Local artists are very active in the Zihuatanejo region, and there are a number of galleries and museums you can visit to view this modern work. From Fisherman’s Walk, where many open-air shops sell their wares, to galleries like Casa Bulmaro or Templo Maya, you can find everything from paintings and sculptures to handcrafted jewelry.
  • If you’re willing to explore a little outside the Zihuatanejo area, you can visit the towns of La Perica, Petatlan, and Murga, all of which have stone ruins, rock paintings, and petroglyphs that are open to the public.

Of course, much of the best culture to explore in Zihuatanejo, Ixtapa, and neighboring Troncones are found all on your own. Getting to know the locals, visiting off-the-beaten-path sites, and buying artisan wares are all part of the Mexico vacation experience. As long as you take measures to ensure your safety as you explore, you can learn so much about life here in coastal Mexico — both today and throughout the centuries!

Traveling with Friends: The Perfect Accommodations

Some of the best memories are forged between friends exploring the world together. From recent graduates setting out on their own for the first time to married couples taking a vacation filled with fun and adventure with their best friends, it’s long been a tradition to enjoy a trip with those who bring you the most happiness in life.

While there is much to be said about overseas vacations with friends, there are drawbacks, as well. For every night of dancing and drinking, there’s the hassle of finding a hotel that can accommodate everyone comfortably. For every poolside party, there’s a desire for a little private downtime. And for every consensus about where to eat or hang out, there’s a disagreement about where to stay.

Here at Casa de la Sirena, we make it easy to enjoy a Mexican beach vacation with two, ten, or twenty of your closest friends! No matter how many different opinions and activity levels are accompanying your group, we have the perfect accommodations for traveling with friends.

Space for Everyone: Casa de la Sirena offers three different room types: private villas, mini villas, and two-story bungalows. You can choose between private rooms and facilities for each member of your group, or you can all stay together in a private villa that boasts three separate bedrooms, your own kitchen and outdoor area, and even a private pool to share. These types of accommodations are ideal for people traveling as a group of couples.

Luxury Communal Spaces:
When you stay in a private villa or our two-story bungalows, you get both private bedrooms and communal living spaces—a must have for any group of friends out for a vacation together. Everything is designed with the same attention to detail and luxury, which means there’s no fighting over who gets what room. Everyone will share the same great ocean views from the privacy of their bedroom, and the living spaces and open-air patios make for great parties or days spent coming and going at your own pace.

Proximity to it All: One of the biggest challenges of traveling with friends is finding a way to cross off the items on everyone’s to-do list. Maybe one of you wants to hit the big city for dancing and parties. Maybe another wants to relax quietly on the beach. Maybe all of you agree on one thing: shopping and surfing. Here in Troncones, you have access to it all. You can stay on site for some rest and relaxation or travel into Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo for a more active nightlife.

If you’re looking to travel on a budget, there are even more reasons to consider Casa de la Sirena and our Troncones beach resort. Because our villas were designed around travel with family and friends, we have been able to keep prices low even as luxury hotels all around us have upped their prices for larger groups. We make it easy and affordable to enjoy the beach setting—and we do it all with an eye to your comfort, regardless of how many people are in your group or how long you plan on staying.
